The Staircase

Do yourself a favor and watch The Staircase. It is the documentary about a notorious murder trail centering around defendant Michael Peterson who had been charged with the grisly murder of his wife  Kathleen. Trust me, I don't get into crime T.V. too much, but I was riveted and shocked with the ending. This doc is an interesting look into the US judicial system and is an example of why I think we should have professional jurors.

  2. well, I spent most of the day watching the staircase (I got hooked) and I was stunned at the verdict...I'm with you--if nothing else, this documentary PROVES beyond a reasonable doubt that we do indeed need 'professional' jurors.

  3. @ Pam, I am so glad you watched it. I don't know how biased it is though. I never knew what a damned "blowpoke" was until I saw it.

  4. I watched some of the follow-ups by the director, etc....said they had a rather difficult time with the prosecution side re getting the opportunity to film, etc. how about that female prosecution lawyer? I wanted to smack her across the face. also, I came to the realization that it is no longer a jury of your peers--it's perhaps a jury of U.S. citizens but that's as far as it goes. don't know if the guy was guilty really but the verdict was determined largely by prejudice and narrow-mindedness and precious little hard evidence...the old haves and have-nots thing as well I think. (and I didn't know what the hell a blowpoke was either! LOL)
