The Babadook

Such a good creepy movie!

Rose Trauma

Image
Although these are lovely examples of my new Popcorn Drift roses, they were oddly and very cleanly decapitated. What the?....

Horn Fountain!

Image
This is the early test of our new horn fountain. Two years ago I found a trumpet and an french horn that I intended to make into a fountain that spilled over a basin covered with rocks. It will be some time until that is completed, so I decided to incorporate them into the stock tanks. With my husband's help, we drilled a hole for the water tube to run to the bell of the horn. This is the late night photo and video I just took. Click the photo to see it in action.

Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve

Image
Located near my in-law's home is the Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve Park. It was built withing the past few years. My husband doesn't remember playing there as a kid, probably because it was an abandoned quarry with stagnant pools, mosquitoes, and thorny brambles-not so fun, even for a boy. Some brilliant minds set about to rehabilitate the area, build natural filtration ponds to clean polluted urban runoff before it flows into the Boise River.   We drive by it a lot, but never stopped to check it out. So for my Birthday, we invited the in-laws out for a stroll and then to dinner.   It isn't a pristine manicured park. Its a functional water purifier for runoff below hundreds of homes and many streets. But there are plenty of birding opportunities and lots of wildlife have returned to offset the mosquitoes. We only get a few of them at our house, which is about 5 miles away. At the in-laws however,  you need to run for cover at dusk.  ...

Not Exactly What I was Expecting

This is what sprung up in my garden. This is what I thought we'd have.

Night Photo

We moved the three potted bamboo plants behind the planter. They are really ratty from winter neglect and abuse. I had to prune them a lot. I hope they like their new spots.

Fading Away

I still find them beautiful.

Cut Flowers

Image
Last year I couldn't bring myself to cut some spring flowers for indoors. This past weekend we had a dinner party, so I went for it. Now I don't even have to look out the window to see some spring color. With a grey house, the color really stands out.

Done, For Now...

150 lbs of pebbles more, and I'm calling this project temporarily complete. I'd like the rock to be deeper, but its expensive and I'm on a tight budget these days starting up a new business.  Tonight Kyle will help me move the three large planters of bamboo from the back yard and we'll place them along this wall to break up all those horizontal lines. They still look a little ratty and need some pruning, so I'm not sure if a photo will appear right away. The tulips have started to bloom. I'm not sure what happened to the daffodils in the front bed, they only bloomed for a few days. We have others that are still going strong elsewhere. This weekend, we should have a lot of color.
