We braved the cold again today, this time in 19 degree Fahrenheit cold to visit the Idaho Botanical Garden.

    i love the statue photo! i'm wondering about the light aberrations in photos one and three though, do you know why that happened? (in the waterfall photo i see floating blue dots above the lights, and in the third photo it looks like the green tree behind your head is ghosted upside down between you and kyle.)

      I know, I just spotted those today. It has been driving me nuts. I need to do more research. It was a good nikon lens. It wasn't an easy night. I had the lens wide open, and by good lens I mean good for a beginner. apparently that is fixable later, I just need to learn that part yet.

      it is a weird effect. were you using a UV filter, or any other filter on your lens? it seems like the light is reflecting off some outer lens element, but inverted...maybe a filter could cause that type of ghosting? although i always have a filter on my lenses and i've never gotten that before.

    What a cool way to ring in the new year! Looks like you were bundled up for that cold weather. I like the scarf on the statue and the blue light stream that was created.

Halloween 2011

Family Portrait I just packed up the haunt and we got everything up in the rafters and all the storage places we could find. I took down the Halloween wreath and put up the Thanksgiving one. I even changed the porch light from black light to warm white. We saved two of the corn stalk bundles and put them up on either side of the porch. All signs of yard haunt 2011 are gone.  We didn't get as many TOTs this year as last, but we aren't in a very enthusiastic neighborhood either. We did have a lot of people stop by during the weekend and got lots of great compliments. I got to take some photos and really tried hard at video, but I don't have the right equipment for that. Maybe next year. I met almost all of my deadlines, but there are always a few that time won't allow for. I now have 364 days to get more lighting sequences done, an next year will have a proper Halloween tree. I almost did too much this year and got pretty stressed with the pressure to finish. B...

Remember Your Rubbers

My education began in the Greater Chicago Catholic school system.  So the title to this post make me giggle.  When I was a little girl and it was raining outside, the nuns would tell us to "Put on your rubbers!" before we went out into the rain. This was back before kids were fragile snowflakes and a light rain was O.K. to go run around on a paved parking lot next to the church where a vicious game of dodge ball was considered healthy, but I digress.  Here I will tell the story of how I learned way more than I ever thought I would about the history of contraceptives (ironic, considering my early childhood huh?) Skip ahead 28 years to my first full time "permanent" job in archaeology. I had moved sight unseen to Boise for the job and had no idea what I was getting into.
